Reale Arena
Reale Arena, locally still known as Anoeta, is one of Spain’s most modern football stadiums, comprehensively renovated in 2019. The redevelopment added fully covered stands, improved acoustics and a capacity of 39,500. The pitch was lowered, the athletics track removed, and the supporters brought closer to the action.
Located in the Amara district, just south of San Sebastián’s centre, the stadium is one of the most accessible top-flight grounds in Spain. A 20-25 minute walk from the Old Town, or a 5-minute walk from Anoeta train station, it sits naturally within the city.

The atmosphere is generated primarily from the Fondo Norte and Fondo Sur stands behind the goals, home to the most passionate Real Sociedad supporters and the txuri-urdinak (white and blue) ultras. Matchdays are vibrant yet family-friendly, with chants, drumming and coordinated tifos creating an electric environment.
The stadium has hosted defining moments in modern La Real history, from the 2019 renovation reopening through the Champions League nights of recent seasons. The Real Sociedad Museum, included with the standard stadium tour, traces the club’s deep connection to Basque football culture.

Chapter 02
Matchday
San Sebastián on matchday is a city that pairs football with food culture like nowhere else in Europe. Bar Néstor for txuleta, Bar Txepetxa for pintxos, then the walk down through Amara to Reale Arena. It is the matchday experience refined.
For visitors attending a match, the stadium is unusually easy to reach. Anoeta train station is a 5-minute walk away, several Donostibus routes pass nearby, and walking from the Old Town takes around 25 minutes through some of the city’s most scenic streets.
Walk from the Old Town. A 20-25 minute walk from Parte Vieja takes you down through Amara to Reale Arena. The matchday approach is one of the most scenic in Spanish football.
Arrive early. Aragon Kalea near the stadium fills with txuri-urdinak (Real Sociedad fans) a few hours before kick-off. Basque cider, football discussions, an unmistakable pre-match atmosphere.
Take the train to Anoeta. Anoeta station is a 5-minute walk from the stadium. Bus routes 17, 21 and 26 also serve the area. Driving is restricted on matchdays.
Tour the stadium & museum. The standard tour (€10-15) lasts 45-60 minutes and includes the dressing rooms, players’ tunnel, press area and pitchside. The Real Sociedad Museum showcases the club’s history and Basque football culture.
