Premier League 2024/25: Thrilling Start to the New Season

The new Premier League season is well underway, with plenty of thrills and spills having been encountered already. Usual suspects Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool all possess 100% winning records, whilst Brighton have made an excellent start to the new season too. Problems already look to be aligning for Everton this term, whilst promoted sides Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton have all had timely reminders of just how brutal the Premier League can be.

With 36 game weeks still to come, the drama is only just beginning. Every club's journey is unfolding, offering fans countless reasons to stay glued to the action.


2024/25 Premier League GW1 Recap:

Manchester United 1 – 0 Fulham
The opening game of the 2024/25 EPL campaign was short on drama but a late goal from Manchester United debutant Joshua Zirkzee was enough to see the team from Salford open up their campaign with a home win against Fulham.

Ipswich Town 0 – 2 Liverpool
The Arne Slot era at Liverpool got off to a winning start, as the reds took a while to get going but eventually overcame Ipswich Town. Second half goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah were enough to see Liverpool over the line in Suffolk.

Arsenal 2 – 0 Wolves
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are being tipped by many to win the Premier League this season and they started in fine fettle, showing their teeth to overcome Wolves through goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka.

Everton 0 – 3 Brighton
Brighton were the early weekend table toppers after thumping Everton Park. Excellent goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck and Simon Adringa sealed an emphatic win for the Seagulls on Merseyside.

Newcastle United 1 – 0 Southampton
An eventful first game of the season greeted the passionate St James’s Park faithful. Fabian Schar was sent off for displaying aggression towards Ben Brereton Diaz, but 10-man Toon still bagged the win through Joelinton.

Nottingham Forest 1 – 1 Bournemouth
Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth played out an entertaining opening day draw, with Chris Wood opening his account for the campaign for Forest, before Antonie Semenyo hit back for the Cherries.

West Ham United 1 – 2 Aston Villa
Champions League playing Aston Villa demonstrated their top 4 credentials with an impressive win on the road at West Ham. Amadou Onana opened the scoring for Villa, only for West Ham to hit back through a Lucas Paqueta penalty but Jhon Duran had the last word for Villa.

Brentford 2 – 1 Crystal Palace
Brentford managed to put the Ivan Toney circus to one side, as they overcame Crystal Palace through Bryan Mbuemo and Yoann Wissa – strikes that were sandwiched with an Ethan Pinnock own goal for the Eagles.

Chelsea 0 – 2 Manchester City
Champions Manchester City showed their resolve, overcoming Chelsea without plenty of key men at their disposal. Goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic set City on their way once again this term.

Leicester City 1 – 1 Tottenham
Newly promoted Leicester City came to the party, as they managed to pick up an opening day point against Tottenham. Pedro Porro steered home to give Spurs the lead but Leicester never gave up hope and picked up a point through Jamie Vardy.

2024/25 Premier League GW2 Recap:

Brighton 2 – 1 Manchester United
Optimism is already starting to wane at Manchester United, who were undone by Brighton once again. Danny Welbeck made it two in two, with Amad Diallo replying for United, only for Joao Pedro to bag a last minute winner for Brighton.

Crystal Palace 0 – 2 West Ham United
Julen Lopategui got his first West Ham win on the road at Crystal Palace, with second half goals from Tomas Soucek and Jarred Bowen enough to get the Hammers up and running this term but the problems mount for Palace.

Fulham 2 – 1 Leicester City
Marco Silva’s Fulham got things going too, with a hard fought win over Leicester City at Craven Cottage. Emile Smith-Rowe opened the scoring for Fulham, with Wout Faes replying but Alex Iwobi had the last word for Fulham.

Manchester City 4 – 1 Ipswich Town
The Manchester City juggernaut looks to be up and running again, coming from behind to beat Ipswich Town. Sammie Szmodics had the temerity to open the scoring for the Tractor Boys, who felt the full wrath of Erling Haaland (hat-trick) and Kevin de Bruyne.

Southampton 0 – 1 Nottingham Forest
Newly promoted Southampton are still looking for their first win of the campaign, as Nottingham Forest came out on top in a cagey encounter, as Morgan Gibbs-White bagged the winner late on.

Tottenham 4 – 0 Everton
The problems continue to mount for Everton, who were thumped in North London, as Yves Bissouma, Son Heung-min (x2) and Cristian Romero sealed a comprehensive first win of the season for Spurs.

Aston Villa 0 – 2 Arsenal
Aston Villa were made to rue missed chances against Arsenal, as the Gunners dug deep to seal a win on the road through Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey’s second half strikes.

Bournemouth 1 – 1 Newcastle United
An entertaining clash down on the south coast ended all square between Bournemouth and Newcastle. Marcus Tavernier turned home for the Cherries, with Anthony Gordon replying for Toon but Bournemouth were left to lament some late VAR decisions to prevent them picking up all three points.

Wolves 2 – 6 Chelsea
Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea were on the rampage at Wolves, picking up a comprehensive 6-2 win. It was 2-2 at half time, as Wolves netted through Matheus Cunha and Jacob Strand Larsen but goals from Nicholas Jackson, Cole Palmer, Joao Felix and a Noni Madueke hattrick sealed a huge win for Chelsea.

Liverpool 2 – 0 Brentford
Liverpool continued their strong start to the season, with a comfortable home win over Brentford. Goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah were enough to see the reds over the line, maintaining their 100% start.
